Grab shot

Shot this photo at Oddfellas Cantina on a Sunday afernoon in Floyd in 2004. I was shooting readings by the Floyd Writer's Circle. At the end of the shoot, I was sitting at a table in the back when I noticed the sunlight and shadows at the rear door. Had one shot left on the Compact Flash card in my Nikon D100 so I leaned back in the chair and took this one shot.
This is exactly how it came out of the camera. Yet it has turned out to be one of the more popular photos taken since my return to Floyd. One print hangs above the cash register at Oddfellas. Another in the office of the Jacksonville Center and I've sold about dozen poster size copies over the years.
Sorry to bore everyone with a blast from the past but until my foot heals I'm limited on how much I can get out to shoot.
Maybe next week.
Beautiful shot!
Beautiful shot!
You can bore us all you want
You can bore us all you want Doug as long as you do it with beautiful photos like this one.
I am waiting for some
I am waiting for some know-it-all from The Roanoke Times to claim you cut-and-pasted that chair into the photo. Don't you know that chairs only appear on the other side of the door at that time of day? You should be so ashamed .
Bob, you have it wrong. The
Bob, you have it wrong. The chair was in the right place. Doug moved the sun. If he can move the moon as easily as others claim the sun should be no problem. It was the sunlight he cut and pasted into the photo :)
Oh why bother is moving the
Oh why bother is moving the sun or the moon. Just move The Roanoke Times to some place that fits their style of doing things. I would suggest Lantana, Florida, which I believe is the home of The National Enquirer.
...or maybe move the Times
...or maybe move the Times to Moscow, home of Pravda, which apologies to Pravda.
What makes your photography so unique...
...is your approach and honesty. You tell us so much about yourself in your photography and you are always so quick to point out what you do to an image when you modify it. I'd love to live close enough to Floyd to take your Photoshop class because I believe I could learn a lot from you and improve my photography as well.
For God's sake don't let some kid with a chip on his shoulder get to you. Besides, you exposed your critics as hypocrites for the way they tried to sneak into your site and trash you.
You just keep doing what you do so well and I'll keep enjoying it.

I admire that photo every time I go into Oddfellas. Thank you putting it up here it for others to enjoy.
Nikon D-100? I thought you
Nikon D-100? I thought you used Canons?
I was a Nikon shooter
Robert:
I shot with Nikons for 40 years. Bought my first Nikon F in 1964 and it served me well for nearly a decade. I went through the various models to the F5 film version before buying a D1 and then a D100 and, finally a D2H.
But Nikon, in my opinion, fell behind Canon in professional digital development so I dumped my Nikon gear in December 2004 and bought a Canon EOS-1D, EOS-1Ds and a 20D along with a full complement of lenses. I haven't looked back.
The 1D is the pefect sports camera. Fast focus, 8.5 frames per second. With Canon's excelent fast and sharp glass they are perfect for shooting action.
The 1Ds, at 16.7 megapixel, is an ideal studio and landscape camera. It has full frame capability which allows use of wide angles. I use it for most shots.
