Broken theories

Lots of theories coming in over the electronic transom regarding my broken left foot. Too many people with time on their hands offering too many theories. Seems some don’t buy the story that I stepped into a hole at FloydFest and suffered two stress fractures on the top of the foot (but that’s my story and I’m sticking to it).

Among the theories:

A Park Ranger stomped on it during FloydFest;

Erika and/or Kris from FloydFest stomped on it;

Lame-duck Commonwealth’s Attorney Gordon Hannett stomped on it;

Amy stomped on it;

I was suffering from my usual foot-in-mouth disease and bit down too hard (my personal favorite).

Follow up Wednesday with the docs.

    Hi Doug,

    This is Tim Smith, a friend of Fred and Ann First. We met and talked briefly at Cafe del Sol a few weeks ago when I was visiting them.

    I want to say I TOTALLY understand your situation, vis a vis the various theories about how your foot got hurt. More than 20 years ago, when I still lived in Wytheville, my wife and I moved from one house to another and had a small crew of friends to help schlepping all our stuff. Sometime in the middle of the process, I turned my ankle badly on the edge of a sidewalk, and had to sit out the rest of the schlepping. As you might well imagine, this caused some odd stares and comments from the crew helping us move, me sitting on the sidelines for the duration of the move.

    Well, I limped along on the ankle for the best part of a week, until my wife one night happened to notice a large purple bruise on the side of my foot. I went to the doctor, got x-rays, and it turned out that I had two stress fractures in the foot. Three weeks in a cast and all was well…and it hasn’t bothered me a bit since then. It still seems odd to me that twisting and ankle can cause bones to break, but there it is. At least I did, finally, feel justified in my sloth and indolence for the latter part of the move.

    I hope your foot will heal as well as mine has!

    Went to the doc today. He says 4-6 weeks recovery. Ouch.
