More than 1,750 in county still without power late Sunday afternoon

More than 1,750 homes and businesses in Floyd County remain without power as nightfall approaches on Sunday.

Appalachian Power put the number of customers still in the dark at 1,785 at 6:15 p.m. — 19.8 percent of the utility company’s market in the county.  Throughout the Virginia region, nearly 200,000 spent another hot and humid day without electrical service.

More than half of Roanoke City — 58.4 percent — remained dark at 6:20 p.m. while 19,145 customers in Roanoke County — 43.4 percent were still powerless.

Appalachian says the outages will continue into the week as crews struggle to get everyone back on line.  With more thunderstorms predicted tonight, tomorrow and Tuesday, everyone is keeping their fingers crossed.
