An old joke used to go something like this: “A traffic jam in Floyd is three cars backed up at the town’s only stop light.
As another old saying goes: “That was then, this is now.”
Instead of three cars backed up at the town’s only stop light, it’s more like three cycles of the red and green to get through the town’s only light. Backups can extend down U.S. 221 to Hardees and the Exxon Station and back to Locust Street on Rte. 8.
A big part of the problem is the lack of left turn lanes at the town’s only intersection. Another part is the growing popularity of the town as a tourist attraction.
Need a bypass around the Town of Floyd.
