Changing signs of the times

Barack Obama won Floyd County in Tuesday's Virginia Democratic primary.
Let me say that again: Barack Obama won Floyd County in Tuesday's Virginia Democratic primary.
Yes, things have changed here in the Blue Ridge Mountains. Obama also carried Radford, Montgomery County, Henry County and Roanoke. Not surprisingly, Clinton carried Franklin and Carroll Counties . Obama won statewide with 64 percent of the vote.
On the GOP side, Mike Huckabee, a candidate with no chance of winning the nomination, carried Floyd County but he lost the state to John McCain.
Outside our voting precinct in the Rescue Squad hall on U.S. 221, signs for only two candidates adorned the entrance (left): Huckaby and Mitt Romney.
Little wonder the Republicans are in trouble. They put up signs for a candidate who can't even win the nomination and another for a candidate who has pulled out of the race.

OBAMA
I think it's a great change for us all. A much needed change!
Maybe Bush did something good for this country after all. If not for the past 7 AWFUL years of Bush, Cheney, Rove, Brownie, Gonzo, etc; Senator Obama might never have had a chance to become president of this country. And WOW, do we ever need a change!
I'm beginning to feel proud again of our country. We have become more open and accepting of others. We're judging Senator Obama for his ability and not his color. I feel good about how just that alone, changes the way the rest of the world see us.
After years of being the country with a cowboy, my way or the highway, self centered, stubborn, greedy administration; maybe we're finally becoming a country of tolerance and justice and peace. I know it's going to be a long road, but I believe Senator Obama is the right man for the job.
No third term for Slick Willie
Hillary also carried Roanoke County, Salem and Galax. Obama won in Roanoke city.
Even with that Hillary is running on fumes. No wonder all the top people in her campaign are jumping off a sinking ship.
