The hunt for Steven Dale Branscome turned Floyd into an armed camp Tuesday with M-16 toting tactical team members wondering the streets like Marines on duty in Baghdad. You could find them eating breakfast at the Blue Ridge Restaurant, dressed in olive drab fatigues and wearing their 9-mm pistols in low-rider holsters.
Just before 6 p.m., they appeared in the parking lot of the Courthouse (above). Ready for action or calling it a day? Hard to tell but has anyone else noticed how much more militaristic looking police forces have become since 9/11? State Troopers now patrol in garb that looks more like a military uniform and most cops have haircuts that look like they just left Marine training at Paris Island.
Branscome is still at large. The State Trooper he shot returned to duty today.

Ive noticed a lot of military type changes and I'm not too pleased about it and it seems that most of the cop here where I live are ex-active duty Marines!

WOW! I bet all this has really upset the peace and quite in Floyd.
I hope they catch this guy, without anyone else getting hurt.

So how does a guy with no coat, and no home survive 5 days in this weather? He has help. And it ain't in Downtown Floyd boys.

Sure he has help. My guess it would be one of his Indian Valley sidekicks.The people that are helping him are probally people that are walking around in Floyd acting concerned. I think that if they find out somebody is helping him they should go to jail with him..My memories of Steve is that he is a bully!!!A bully that thinks he can't be stopped, so he will come out sometime..Meantime if the police really went out in the Valley and talked to the good ol Valley boys they probally could find.Sombody knows where he is and probally is more scared of Steven than they are of the police.
Bounty?
Is the $25K leading to info or arrest of Branscome a "Wanted Dead or Alive" bounty? Not bad money for a day's work.
Possible Sighting?
Is it possible I saw Branscome today? I was coming home from baseball practice when a 1997 ford f-150 cut me off. The paint job was Dark blue, with a light blue stripe circling it in the middle. If I'm not mistaken, this matches the description of the vehicle he stole, correct? I looked over at the guy, and I swear to you it looked exactly like him. But heres the kick. He had two people with him. One appeared to be a young female, the other appeared to be a 40ish , redneck indiviual. Couldnt tell the gender. The other thing is - he turned into the walmart parking lot in Galax. I know it is very easy to hide down here in Carroll/ Grayson/ Floyd counties, so is it possible this was him? I wanted to call in the tip line, but I wasn't sure, so I didn't. Would someone let me know if I should turn this tip in , and to who?
