FHS boys clinch district title bid with win, girls can do the same Thursday night
With a clutch win over scrappy Glenvar Wednesday night, Floyd County’s varsity boys basketball team secured its first return to a district championship game in 15 years and setting the stage for what could be a twin bill in Christiansburg Friday night for both the boys and girls team.
If the Lady Buffs take tonight’s semi-final game they will join the boys Friday in vying for the district championship. The girls team are normally contenders for the district title and have made it to the state championships several times.
The boys team beat Glenvar 64-61 after leading by 15 at the half. They face perennial district contender Radford to the championship after losing to the Bobcats twice in the regular season.
The girls, who had a bye in the first round after going 10-0 in district play for the season can secure a spot in the championship game Friday night with a win in Christiansburg tonight.
