Street music

Floyd's streets were alive with the sounds of music Friday night. High gas prices did not keep the throngs away and even though the town spent a fair amount of money building wider sidewalkers with alcoves for musicians and spectators, that did not stop some from setting up their lawn chairs on the street to watch the musicians.

Others stayed off the street and opted for the alley between the Floyd County Store and Angels in the Attic to watch Clyde Williams (below) hold court with other musicians.

Streets

I have no problem with musicians playing music on the sides of the streets in Floyd, I actually think that is what makes the Friday Night Jamboree great.

However, I worry about this. Last night, coming through the stop light, a musician (who was already 3 feet into the road in front of the Country Store) walked just short of the yellow line right in front of me. Never looked back or turned his head. Luckily, I was only going about 15 mph and could stop, but some people don't mind their speed coming through town.

I know playing by the road is par for the course, but I hope it doesn't take someone getting hit by a vehicle for everyone to be realize that, Friday Night Jamboree or no, it's unsafe to stand/sit in the road.
