Snow? Yeah, that's snow on the ground...sort of

Yep, that's a bit of snow on the ground this morning. Over in West Virginia, they have six inches or more but what fell here overnight was just enough to make the ground seem almost white.

The thermometer read 21 when I got up at 5:00 a.m. today and might reach 31 at the height of the day so the wet conditions will bring black ice on back roads and slick conditions on bridges.

Snowfalls are rare these days. Not like the 50s and 60s when snow fell from October to February (and sometimes March) and today's forecasts calls for light snow showers with all precipitations ending by 6 p.m.

Overnight lows will remain below freezing throughout the week but highs are expected to reach 46 degrees on Thursday and the low 40s for the weekend.

So enjoy it while it lasts.

Love the snow but my ? is

Love the snow but my ? is ,What was the school board thinking? Why not delay school just incase its slick. I heard the roads are bad so I stayed in for a couple hours with my children..

Will it take a tragedy before wiser decisions are made?

Schools should definitely have been closed this morning. At the very least, schools should have been delayed two hours to give the road crews a chance to make the roads safer. Alum Ridge Road was entirely too dangerous for anyone to be on, especially school busses. I sat up there for over an hour because there was a nine car wreck and no one could move because it was so slick.

Dr. Arbogast and others who make the final call need to start making wiser decisions when it comes to the safety of our children, teachers, and staff. There was no need to put all of those folks in danger like that and I hope many, many parents and other concerned citizens will write and/or call (745-9400) to voice their opinions.

Snow

Had close to an inch down here in some parts of Carroll. The heaviest snow was between Galax and Hillsville. Enough to make everything white. It's very encouraging for the upcoming winter!! Love the post.

Snow and Global Warming

I was just passing by the Rocky Knob area on the Parkway and was mightily surprised to find little if any evidence of snow up there. Made me wonder about global warming and so when I got back I did a little online research at several un-impeachable websites. I found out something new. In addition to the usual suspects of overpopulation, greenhouse gases, methane, and other carbon emissions a new source is being considered as a leading cause. Research shows that global warming is NOT a simple repeat of historical and cyclical weather patterns as is advanced by many right wing, radically conservative pundits. Rather, the emerging facts point to residual, hormone-induced heat generated back in the 60s. Enquiring minds need to know.
