Floyd County loses 53-46 to George Mason
Floyd County High School’s Lady Buffaloes varsity basketball team lost their bid for a second straight state championship as the George Mason Mustangs avenged last year’s loss in the state semi-finals and beat the Buffs 53-46.
The final score was closer than the game as the Lady Buffs staged a mini-comeback late in the fourth quarter but the team lost control of the game early in the second quarter and never regained momentum. They went cold on the floor and at the free-throw line, missing shot after shot and the Mustangs played Buffalo style basketball with multiple steals.
The Lady Buffs trailed by up to 15 points in the fourth quarter. Britney Avancini finished the game with 19 points and Carmen Bolt with 10 but Avancini was just 5 for 19 from the floor but 8 for 8 at the free throw line.

If you hate the Buffs so much, then WHY are you on a website that posts news about this county? Are you looking for a fight? If so, I can pretty much guarantee that with a comment like that you found one.

I AM though someone who doesn’t take to highly to having my county or fellow members of my community called names, I don’t care WHO you are. These girls put their hearts and souls into that basketball team. They deserve NOTHING but respect.

Great run Buffs. I believe you lost to a very good team from Northern Virginia and probably the toughest team you have played this season. So far this has been a great year to follow Floyd teams. Two state finalist and hoping for another one this spring.Thanks again Doug for providing the photos and stories to go along with it.
