A sad trip back to Washington

Headed for D.C. for the funeral of the daughter of dear friends. Beth Gatti died at 39 after a long battle with kidney problems and a failed transplant. Amy and I watched her grow up during our 23 years in Washington. Losing her is like losing a child we never had. It hurts. It hurts a lot but our sorrow can be nothing compared to the intense loss felt by her parents, Ron and Anne, her husband Jon or her young son Connor.

Death is never easy. Death of someone so young is even more tragic.

I don’t cry a lot but I’m crying today. The tears won’t stop.

March 28th will be the 10th anniversary of the death of my brother. Nothing has ever been so hard to deal with but I cannot begin to imagine how my mother feels. He was her firstborn. As long as it’s been there are still some days that we can’t speak of him without crying. Today is one of those days. You, your family and Beth’s family are in my prayers today. May God give you all strength.

So sorry to hear about friend’s daughter. I’ve never understood why the young have to die and as I get older it confuses me even more. I’m sure you were as special to her as she was to you. I’ll keep you and her family in my prayers.

It’s never easy, and they are always children if we’ve watched them grow up. Safe travels, we’ll leave the light on for you.

Country highway, pine trees, rain, deep and aching loss….
I’ve been there, and am so sorry that you are.
    Take care, dears.
