The Moving Wall

The Vietnam Veterans Moving Wall is a 2002 documentary filmed and produced by Amy and I. It tells the story of the traveling Vietnam Veterans Memorial during a visit of one of the memorials to Fairview Heights, Illinois, near Scott Air Force Base and St. Louis.

With Memorial Day approaching, I thought it would be a good time to revisit the film and tell the story of the Moving Wall.

It features Vietnam Vet Adrian Cronauer (of Good Morning Vietnam fame). I first met Adrian when he managed Channel 27 in Roanoke in the late 1960s and he and his wife Jeane are long time friends. Adrian served in the POW/MIA office in the Pentagon until his retirement earlier this year and he and Jeane now live in Troutville.

    Doug,
Excellent story. My dad is a disabled vietnam vet and suffers from PTSD. I’ve been his financial custodian for 8 years now,and have cared for him, and I had the recent blessing of being able to take him (by ourselves) to tour DC and visit the wall (among other things). I will never forget that experience. I will never forget my dad walking all the way down the wall and not being able to take the slightest glance at it. I didn’t know what to expect when we got there but that was the last thing I could have expected. I really had a hard time seeing that but I had to hold it together for both of us. I’m glad to see you capture such appreciation for vietnam vets. God Bless You.
