Seems like it is snowing everywhere. I’m stuck in snow in Belleville, Illinois, there is ice and snow in the Cumberland Mountains of Maryland that prevents us from getting from here to there and I read about fresh snow in Floyd on Fred First’s excellent Fragments From Floyd Blog.
A couple of years ago, the snow had blanketed the farm near Willis, Virginia, and I slogged up the hill above the house to get a good shot of the snow-covered valley. I had taken about a half-dozen shots when I heard a noise from behind and turned to see a magnificent buck. He didn’t move as I dropped to one knee and snapped off a dozen more photos. Then he just turned and walked away.
Whenever people ask me why I keep returning to Floyd County after all these years, I just pull out a photo of that deer and remember that incredible, snow-covered day.
