National Rifle Association endorsement: Kiss of death?

Ask not for who the NRA reaper reaps. It reaps for thee.
Ask not for who the NRA reaper reaps. It reaps for thee.

A local politician who claims to “really know what brings Virginians to the polls,” cornered me today and said “Ken Cuccinelli will beat Terry McAuliffe because he has an “A” rating from the National Rifle Association” and McAullife has an “F.”

“The NRA endorsement assures election,” he said.

Really?

The NRA endorsed former governor and Senator George Allen in both his re-election effort against Jim Webb in 2006 and his comeback attempt against Tim Kaine in 2012.

Allen lost both times.

In 2012, the NRA endorsed 18 incumbent members of the House of Representatives for re-election (14 Republicans and four Democrats).

All 18 lost.

The NRA endorsed both John McCain and Mitt Romney for President over Barack Obama.

Both lost nationally and in Virginia.

So, is an NRA endorsement worth anything?

Not really.
