Full contact basketball
Floyd County High School’s 8th grade girls’ basketball team opened their home season Wednesday night with a 53-8 drubbing of Radford.
That’s right: 53-8. They did the old-fashioned way, playing the aggressive, no-holds-barred game that has become the trademark of girls’ basketball at FCHS.
Looks like varsity coach Alan Cantrell has some exciting prospects coming his way in a couple of years.

The 8th grade boys played last night too, and took Radford into overtime. Even though they didn’t pull out the win, they provided the exciting addition to the evening. It was a great game and a spark for boys basketball at FCHS.
I had to leave the boys’ game at halftime because of another assignment and the scored was tied at 19 then. Good to hear they drove the game into overtime.
I always enjoy your coverage of the girls bball every season. Terrific photos. My Daughter is in her first year of varsity play and I am looking for a camera upgrade without breaking the bank. Am looking at a used Canon D20 and would like your thoughts on them. Also what lens may best suit basketball action. Thanks a lot.
