Floyd County High School’s Lady Buffs opened the Virginia 2A West Regional Playoffs Tuesday night in normal fashion for a 23-1 team ranked first in the state:  Trouncing the Getna Hawks 87-41 before an appreciative home crowd.

After a scoreless first minute in the game, the team started a scoring splurge that put the Lady Buffs ahead 31-8 at the end of the first quarter and 51-18 at the half.

Hannah Belshan and Regan Wiseman led scoring with 17 points each. In all, 10 Lady Buffs put points on the board in a balanced attack that has been the hall mark of team play all season.

Floyd County faces a determined Gate City in a semi-final match Thursday night at the FCHS gym at 8 p.m. and the winner of that game plays for the Region 2A West Crown at Floyd County on Saturday night.

On the boys side, the Buffloes head to Danville Wednesday night to face undefeated and number one ranked Dan River in what is expected to be a tough and hard fought match.  Game time is 7 p.m.

Hannah Belshan: Also a 17-point night.
