Another state title?

Floyd County High School’s Varsity softball team starts the season as the defending state champion and is ranked second behind another state champ, Cave Spring, in the Timesland Top 10 for 2014.

Led by All-Timesland pitcher – Christine Phillips — the team enters the season with high hopes and expectations.  Phillips is not only a dominating pitcher (13-2 last season) she also wields a powerful bat, hitting .384 last season.

Joining Phillips with power at the plate is Aimee Royal (.437), Holly Britt (.397) and Karlee Pendleton (.384).  Under the new “conference” format for playoffs, the Buffaloes face James River and Glenvar in a route to the regionals.

But with eight of last season’s nine starters returning this year, the odds look good.
