Puppy days of August

The dogs of days of August are returning to the area with heat, humidity and some thunderstorms — at least for a while.

Temperatures could reach the low 90s this week in Roanoke and other lower-lying areas.

Heat returns after an extended cool period in July that set low-record levels for the month.

But wait.  Roanoke Times weather guru Kevin Myatt says another onslaught of Canadian air could arrive in 7-10 days and sent the thermometer southward.

While some rains are expected, dryer than normal conditions should continue for the first part of the month and perhaps later.

Tropical storm Bertha is heading out to sea.
