Light snow overnight, topped with a freezing mist, closed schools in Floyd County Friday and left roads slick and treacherous throughout the region.
Temperatures hovered near 20 with wind chills in single digits as the polar mass hit Southwestern Virginia and put the freeze on.
The highs today are expected to stay right around freezing and lows will head below 20 overnight.
A little warmer — around 40 — Saturday but freezing again overnight with a high up to 46 on Sunday and 45 Monday.
Then the temperature heads into the freezing range and stays there Tuesday with a high of 24 and lows at half that.
Winter has arrived.
