An iconic train of our history will steam back into Roanoke next weekend after refurbishing at the North Carolina Museum of Transportation, courtesy of a massive fundraising effort.
The locomotive is part of my history as well. It pulled the train that brought my mother back to her home area in 1953. I was a five-year-old and remember the awe of that massive amount of machinery that puffed and groaned as we stepped off the train and walked by it at the station in Roanoke.
It is scheduled to arrive in Roanoke on May 30. Our thanks to Chip Allen for sharing the video above.
