State title run ends for Lady Buffaloes

A run or an out? The decision was close and many felt a wrong call by the ump cost Floyd a run.

The run for a second state softball championship for the Lady Buffaloes ended Friday morning when a solo run by Pike County broke a 0-0 tie in the first extra inning.

A close call at home plate ended a chance earlier in the game for Floyd to score and another base runner in scoring position in the bottom of the 7th inning could have given Floyd the win but the runner was stranded on a strikeout.

Floyd and Page kept the game scoreless in the regulation innings until the leadoff home run at the top of the eighth and Floyd went went down with fly balls in their final chance to score.

But, like the Ladies basketball team earlier this year, the Lady Buffs made the final four of the playoffs.  They won the State Championship in 2013 and the final four in 2014, losing in the semifinals.

Congratulations ladies.

Holly Britt slides safely into third but is unable to score.
