The “home” course for the Floyd County High School cross country team for regional events over the last few years has been the grounds surrounding Rocky Knob picnic area on the Blue Ridge Parkway — a visual delight but not close to Floyd.

This year’s regional meet moved to Chantilly Farm on Franklin Pike and also provided picture perfect views as well as a challenging course that snaked up and down steep hills and provided challenges for the 3K and 5K runs, with the final heat fishing up just as the sun set.

Chantilly also offered a full snack bar with the satellite Floyd Country Store.

Runners and fans praised the site and said they look forward to future cross country events at the Farm, which is growing into an area attraction with musical events, car shows and more.

Teams from Glenvar, Hidden Valley and other schools joined the FCHS Buffaloes for races in the Varsity, Junior Varsity and Middle School categories.

Roger Mannon of The Floyd Press will report the results in the next issue of the Floyd Press along with more photos from my cameras.

Floyd teams are on the road Thursday for Volleyball matches at Auburn in Montgomery while Middle School and Junior Varsity football teams head for Glenvar in Roanoke County.

Friday brings varsity football home for the annual homecoming game against Eastern Montgomery.  The game starts at 7:00 pm.
