Martinsville came to Floyd Friday night to show why the boys varsity team is the defending state champions and they gave a display of three-point power for a 75-38 thumping but the Lady Buffaloes put on their own display of championship-caliber basketball, downing the Henry County visitors 59-48 in the girls nightcap.

Ragan Wiseman put on an offensive and defensive show with 26 points, including eight three point goals, and 21 rebounds.  Natalie Booth added 12 points with half of those coming from two three-pointers and Ashley Gallimore put in 11 points with two in the three-point ranks.

The Lady Buffs took an early lead and led scoring 21-16 at the end of the first quarter but Martinsville battled back, tying the game at 32 all at the half.  Hard defense from both teams limited scoring to just 7 points for Floyd and four for Martinsville in the third quarter with Floyd leading by three but the Lady Buffs turned up the heat in the fourth quarter with a three-point blitz in the last three minutes of the game to outscore the Henry County team 20-12 and close out the evening with the 11-point lead.

The win puts the Lady Buffs at 3-1 for the young season.

The Floyd boys ran into a three-point display of power from Martinsville with Radford University signee Devonnte Holland downing three triple pointers as part of the team’s 15 for the night.

Holland finished the game with 24 points as three players made it into double digits.  For the Buffaloes, Michael Osborne and Jared Spence led scoring with eight points apiece.  The loss puts the Buffs at 1-2 for the season.
