Closing out the year with music and sports

Music and basketball provide fun and entertainment as New Year’s Eve arrives Thursday night and the annual Chance Harman Classic takes to the court at Floyd County High School.

At last county, new year’s eve bashes are scheduled at The Floyd Country Store, with the Dry Hill Draggers and Dogtown Roadhouse with Spoonfight and Deer Run Drifters. There may be others that we missed.

A host of basketball teams play Friday and Saturday at the Floyd County High School gym for the Chance Harman Classic.  Friday night’s event include a slam dunk contest at 7:30 p.m.

Floyd’s varsity Buffaloes square off against Gate City at 5:00 p.m. Saturday.

The Friday Night Jamboree returns Friday night after having Christmas Day off.  Janet Turner & Friends provide the gospel hour at 6:30 p.m., followed by The Lone Ivy String Band at 7:30 p.m. and The Kuntry Store Band at 9:00 p.m.

The Small Town Renegades (formerly Luke & Abby) kick off the Americana Afternoon at the Floyd Country Store at noon, followed by Blue Ridge Arrangement at 1:15 p.m.

The Floyd Radio Show kicks off 2016 with its Saturday night performance at the Country Store with guests Riley Baugus & Kairk Sutphin and Sarah Wood & Thomas Albert.

Goodbye 2015.  Hello to 2016.
