The setting sun helped decide the outcome of Floyd County High School’s varsity softball game against Pulaski Friday after it took more than an hour for an umpire and referee to arrive and the game started late in the afternoon.

No matter. The Lady Buff shut out the Cougars 3-0 through strong pitching by Ashley Gallimore and also had two hits along with a hit and RBI from Mary Philllips,, Abby Cox, Macey Vest and Makayla Conner.

Floyd scored with one run and added two more as the shadows lengthened with the sun going down and the umpire called the game after five innings.

Softball lacrosse? With time to kill because of late-arriving officials, the Lady Buffs kill some time.
