May weather: The heat is on

The cool patch from the first week of May is gone this week, replaced with more sun, higher temperatures and, of course, afternoon and evening thunderstorms.

Forecasts from the National Weather Service in Blacksburg predict a high of 77 in and around Floyd Monday, 78 Tuesday and in the 70s for the rest of the week with lows in the higher 50s.

That’s a sharp turn from highs in the 50s and lows in the 40s — and in some cases the 30s — last week.

Thunderstorms are expected to strike the area around 6 p.m. Monday.  Tuesday could be a dry day but rain through the week until clearing for the weekend.

Looks like a chance Tuesday to mow our yard, which looks like a wilderness area right now.  We may have to fire up the DR Brush Mower to get some parts of it under control.
