Inauguration? What inauguration?

Had better things to do than watch or worry about the inauguration of Donald Trump as the 45th President of the United States Friday.

Drove down to Roanoke to pick up a refrigerator water filter.

As it turned out, the trip cost lot more than just a $38.50 filter.

Stopped at a Kroger gas location at Lakeside Plaza ($2.12 a gallon with discount).  Turned the ignition key and got only the “clicks” instead of a churning starting motor on our 2002 Liberty.

Had starting cables in the back and the guy at the next pump let me use his working battery to get the engine to turn over. At first, it didn’t want to idle but finally stayed running.  He turned down an offer of payment and I drove over to an Advance Auto Parts Store on Electric Road to have them check the battery and electrical system.

The Liberty started fine earlier in the day Friday when I drove into Floyd for breakfast, then ran some errands before heading down to Roanoke.  No slowness in the starting, no warning lights.

But the car failed to start again at the auto parts store.  The battery testing unit at Advance Auto declared the battery was dead.  Bought a new one, hooked up the cables and it fired right up.  More checks by the helpful guy at the store found the electrical system of the car running normally with full charging by the alternator and no other problems.

After  two hour delay to restore working battery power in a 15-year-old car with 170,000 miles on it, I picked up the water filter unit and got back to Floyd just in time to pick a prescription for Amy and ride with her over to Christiansburg so she could play bingo and I could settle into the seat of Auditorium 14 at Regal Cinemas to watch “Patriots Day,” the film by director Peter Berg about the bombing of the Boston Marathon in 2013.

Turned out to be one of the best movies I’ve seen so far this year with strong performances by Kevin Bacon, Mark Wahlberg and others.

Picked up Amy after the movie as dense fog settled in on C’Burg and after a stop at Sonic for milkshakes, headed back to Floyd for the night and hit the sack without checking in on a single thing about the “transition” of power in Washington.

Did I miss anything?

Don’t know.

Don’t care.
