Rain, Wind Today & Sun by Wednesday

Rain and a wind advisory this evening and into Tuesday. (File photo from 2016)

Yep, that was thunder overhead between 5 and 6 a.m. Monday.  Thunderstorms in January.

The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) says we just came off the warmest year (at least the warmest since they started tracking these sorts of things).

Some could say the hot air emanating from Washington could be responsible for global warming and/or climate change.  A minister I know says the warmer weather means hell is coming.

The National Weather Service has a wind advisory in effect from 6 p.m. until noon Tuesday with northwest winds of 20 to 30 miles per hour with gusts up to 55.  Power outages are possible.

It’s 44 degrees and raining like a sun-of-a-gun.  The forecast says a low of about 35 tonight and then a high of 47 on Tuesday with drier weather and then 62 on Wednesday with sun and zero chance of rain.

The storms that moved in overnight and that will drop more rain on us for part of the day is what’s left over of the one that tore up the Southeast.  At least 19 died from harsh storms and tornados.

Storms ripped across Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, Georgia and Texas over the weekend and states of emergency are in effect in Georgia and Mississippi.

Strong winds downed power lines and sparked a 50-acre brush fire in Citrus County, Florida.

In and around Floyd County this week, we should see a sunny and warm Wednesday, more sun on Thursday with the high dipping down to 40 and then below freezing overnight to 27 before hovering the upper 30s for the remainder of the week and below freezing at nights.

In local news, Floyd County Circuit Court starts at 9:30 p.m. Tuesday, the second monthly meeting of the county Board of Trustees meets at 7 p.m.

At Floyd County High School, the Scholastic Bowl Conference Tournament faces James River at 4 p.m. and JV Lady Buffaloes basketball is scheduled for 6 p.m.

The Lady Buffs square off against Radford Tuesday with the JV Girls at 6 p.m. and Varsity at 7.

It’s Lady Buffs versus Giles Thursday.  JV game at 5:30 and Varsity at 7.

On Friday, the boys basketball teams travel to Gate City for a 5 p.m. JV game and boys at 6:30 p.m. for the rescheduled Chance Harman classic matchup postponed from Floyd because of snow.
