Catching a bird in full flight with a camera is a combination of timing, fast focus and a lot of luck. Modern, high-speed auto-focusing lenses make the task somewhat easier but it still comes down to being at the right place at the right time and being lucky.
Saturday’s warmer than normal weather gave me a chance to capture this shot not far from our home in Floyd County, Virginia.
Nice way to start the new year.

A fog-shrouded moon over the hill behind our house. Sometimes, the beauty of nature can be enjoyed simply by walking out the back door and looking through the trees at the sky.
Far warmer than normal weather brought 2004 to an end and signalled the beginning of 2005 which means when the harsness of winter finally arrives in the Blue Ridge it will seem even colder and harsher.
Continue reading …The morning sun filters through the trees on this way warmer than normal first day of the New Year. The talking heads on the tube say the temperature will hit 60 for the third day in the row here in the mountains of Southwestern Virginia. Maybe those who yap about global warming are onto something.
