The rain and the pain is no reason to complain

043005track.jpgFriday morning’s heavy rains and the afternoon threat of more did not stop the twice-postponed regional varsity track meet at Floyd County High School as students from several area schools participated under a heavy cloud cover and more rain that drenched the later events of the meet.

I suppose you know this means war

Fred First knows better. He intruded, without permission, into my “birds against the sky” franchise Thursday with a beautiful Photoshopped image of a raven against a brilliant, cloudlit sky. He also added some pithy comments about what he feels is my annoying habit of finding such photos wherever I go.

Good food, good times

Tried out the newly-reopened Pine Tavern Restaurant last night. Some friends who had tried it loved it while others found the food uninspired.

Perhaps the inconsistency comes from being new. We found the food fantastic with excellent service and a convivial atmosphere for a fun evening.

The new Pine offers two choices for dinner: Homestyle dining or off the menu dishes like catfish, chicken, meatloaf and other delicacies.

Old? Not on your tin type

You talking to me?

One of the family of mallards that moved into the stream in our front yard regards me as I arrive home Tuesday. The duck used to run when I approached. Now there is a mixture of wariness and benign acceptance of another intrusion from the human who lives up the hill.

Restoration of Faith

In one of those rare occasions where common sense overrides blind adherence to “procedure,” the service tech from General Electric fixed our water heater today at no charge, considered it a valid warranty claim, and wondered, like us, why the installers did not do their job.

Hot Tub Heaven

042605moon.jpgThe realities of modern day callousness and inferior customer service invaded our little piece of heaven this weekend. After three days of fighting the Great Water Heater War, Amy and I were exhausted — both mentally and pnysically.

Evading Responsibility 101

A frustrating day listening to robots recite “procedure” and avoid responsibility for their screwups.

General Electric says it may not honor the the warranty on our new water heater because we had an electrician modify the wiring so the damn thing would work and we could take a shower on a Sunday night after being without hot water for more than 48 hours.

Home Depot says it ain’t their fault because General Electric should fix it and, so far, refuses to hold their inept contractors responsibile.

Lost weekend

As reported earlier, water heater went out late Friday afternoon (during electrical storm). Spent Friday night without hot water.

Lost most of Saturday waiting for Home Depot to deliver and install new unit. Cancelled dinner plans (along with plans for friends to meet at our house).

Nightmare on Greenbriar Lane

Water heater went out Friday night. Spent most of Saturday waiting for one of Home Depot’s “preferred contractors” to deliver and install a new one. They arrived at 6:30 p.m. (we put in the call at 7 a.m.). Took an hour. Told me to wait until 9 p.m. to turn water and pump back on (to give the adhesives on the seals time to set).
