The morning sun can display a variety of colors, especially when combined with a slight mist. These woods are part of the land above our house while the stream is the Little River off Bethlehem Church Road about two miles from our home.

Fred First, the dean of Floyd County bloggers, raised the inevitable question over the weekend: Are we, as bloggers, leading the county down the path of doom by promoting the lifestyle here?
Sit in a local restaurant on any weekend day and most of the tables will be filled with visitors pouring over real estate brochures, looking for their patch of heaven here in paradise.

I don’t know enough about plants and flowers to know what these were that bloomed in the woods behind our home during the warm weather this week but they took a beating when high winds moved in Saturday.
The wind outide is howling at 29 miles per hour right now, according to our wind guage and gusts overnight hit 64 mph. With the temperature at 34, the wind chill is down into the teens.
Continue reading …You can say many things about the Thompson household (and some have) but you can no longer say we are full of crap. Our septic tank has been pumped — apparently for the first time in 28 years.
When we bought the house last year from a couple who had lived in it since 2001 they said they thought the septic had been pumped in 1999, five years earlier. Prudence suggests pumping the system every 3-5 years so we scheduled service by Montgomery Septic.

Some incredible sunsets this week in the Blue Ridge Mountains. Firey sunsets. Red sky at night. Sailor’s delight. That old cliche may prove wrong today with rain, thunderstorms and flood warnings headed our way.
As March sunsets and April begins we look with hope for more Spring but Mama Nature has a cold weekend that may even bring snow (?) showers in the upper elevations.
