Floyd is well known not only for bluegrass music but there is a talented community of blues musicians and singers as well. Like Sally Walker, the "Little Diva" of "Little Diva and the G-Strings." Here’s a video of her and the band performing at Floyd’s recent Spring Into Summer Festival.

The afternoon thunderstorm soaked parts of Floyd County Wednesday but other sections remained dry. We heard the thunder at the studio but no rain fell. As I drove home in the early evening, the evidence of heavy rain increased but by then the sun was out with the light playing off the wetness.

I stopped along Harvestwood Road and found this rapidly disappearing evidence of recent rain set against the setting sun.

Hark! What light through yonder tree shines?

The morning sun breaks through the trees along Bethlehem Church Road in Floyd County. I pass this way often on pre-dawn sojourns and the rising sun often overwhelms the morning as light brings in the day.

Summer thunderstorm

Summer thunderstorm

The windows in my studio in Floyd are covered so I didn’t see the sky darkening outside. But when thunder shook the building, I grabbed my camera and headed outside for a look.

The dark, ominous clouds were a a shade of blue I had not seen here in the mountains, more like something you find on the plains of the midwest. The lightning came fast and furious. I sat the camera on a ledge and opened the shutter. Nature did the rest.
