
Lightning lit up the sky Monday night as I made a late run to Roanoke. This bolt hit the ground near the top of Bent Mountain just off U.S. 221.

What started as a cloudy, cool day for the Virginia High School League State Track Finals at Radford University turned into sunny, hot and humid, taking its toll on the high school athletes who ventured into the Blue Ridge for a tourney that came on the same weekend as gradudation.

Floyd County High School’s Lady Buffs softball squad advanced to the next round of the regional playoffs Friday and will meet old nemesis Glenvar Monday. The girls have a chance to avenge a tough, one-run loss to Glenvar in the district championship game last week.
A day of solid rain on Thursday sent creeks to the edge of their banks and water cascading down hills, a needed soak that took the edge off dry lawns and dusty roads.
Sporadic rains are forecast today along with thunderstorms expected for the weekend. Then we can lookforward to more grass growing, followed by more grass cutting and then more grass growing, followed by more grass cutting.

Much needed rain moved into the area Wednesday afternoon. Should continue through today before clearing sometime Friday.
Last November, when were were finishing up sale or our condo in Northern Virginia and getting ready to make the final, and complete, move to Floyd County, I came down with a cold, which turned into flu, which turned into walking pneumonia.
