Hope for a brighter morning

I took this picture several days ago, before a prolonged period of cloudy, dreary mornings settled into the area.

The Fourth of July weekend was, for the most part, cloudy with rain on and off over the three-day weekend. In a way, it matched my mood and — I think — the mood of the nation.

We had family over for a cookout but decided against going over to the high school Monday night to see the fireworks. The desire to celebrate just wasn’t there.

The American flag flies in front of our home on this Independence Day, just as it does the other 364 days a year.

Sadly, it does not fly as proudly as it once did because the America it represents does not stand as tall as it should.
