Floyd’s famous Friday Nite Jamboree reopened this weekend after a five-week shutdown for complete renovation of Woody Crenshaw’s Country Store.

An overflow crowd packed the enlarged dance floor and danced the night away as musicians enjoyed the new stage, vastly-improved sound system and amenities like a Green Room for artists to tune up get ready for their performances.

Crenshaw has put a ton of time, effort and money into enlarging and upgrading the facilities of the Country Store but the new edition still maintains the charm of the old while providing better facilities (like larger restrooms) to make the evening more comfortable.

An old-fashioned soda fountain and lunch counter will be open soon along with a music store that will sell CDs and other memorabilia.

The Old Dominion Cloggers provided added entertainment and the tradition to trying to identify those who came from the greatest distance brought out a young man from Brazil and a Norwegian celebrating his 50th birthday. Traditional music artists Mac and Jenny Traynham kicked off the evening with gospel music, followed by the Snake Hollow String Band and then local favorites Barbershop Grass and the Clyde Williams Band.

Even with more room, the place was packed Friday night and you had to wind and jostle your way to a crowded dance floor.

Still, old timers and newcomers alike proclaimed the new/old County Store "better than ever" and kept the dance floor packed until the Clyde Williams Band closed out the evening around 10:45 p.m.
