Chowing down after the ride

Jack

Motorcycle riders on Harleys, Honda Gold Wings, Yamahas and Kawasakis ignored fog and the threat of rain Saturday morning to gather at Floyd County High School for a poker run to raise money for Jack — a young boy who has undergone a series of leg operations and faces massive medical bills.

Sheriffs Department chief investigator — and preacher — Jeff Dalton led the group on a spirited 185-mile ride on Rte 8 to Christiansburg, west on U.S. 460 to Narrows and then south along Wolf Creek to Bland and then back to Floyd via Rtes. 42, 100, Interstate 81 and 8.

Rain drenched the riders during the Wolf Creek segment but that didn’t dampen the enthusiasm. One rider’s bike suffered a broken clutch cable but a pickup truck and trailer following the group provided transportation back to the Moose Lodge where Lasagna, music and door prizes awaited.

Dalton presented a check for $1,000 from Medical Charities of Floyd County, VA, and the Moose Lodge kicked in another $300 to add to the money raised from the poker run.

A good time for a good cause.
