One thing I don’t miss about the Midwest are the ice storms. Suffered through several during my 11 years in the St. Louis area and reading about the problems from the storm that has left a half-million people without power and killed dozens from Oklahoma to New York.
While we have occasional ice storms around here, they don’t compare with the thick, power-line breaking, road-coating layers of frozen water that fell each and every winter in the Midwest.
The ice created beautiful photographic opportunities but that didn’t offset the disruptions and havoc that such storms created.
Looks like the aftermath of those storms will bring cold weather into the mountains of Virginia for the next week or so but not the ice…or snow.
