Old Home Week

The last week or so has been old home week around here. During the open house at The Jacksonville Center as part of the Spring Into Summer festivities last weekend, my high school journalism teacher, Ruth Hallman, dropped by the studio for a visit.

The last week or so has been old home week around here. During the open house at The Jacksonville Center as part of the Spring Into Summer festivities last weekend, my high school journalism teacher, Ruth Hallman, dropped by the studio for a visit.

Mrs. Hallman and her husband, Floyd Press editor and publisher Pete Hallman, nurtured my journalistic ambitions during my three years at Floyd County High School (1962-65). She taught English and journalism at school and Pete provided the real life lessons at the paper after school. Without them, the 40 years that followed graduation from FCHS would have been much different.

Two other teachers also visited the studio — Nola Alpert and Freida Rohrer — along with two former girlfriends and some others from those days at the school.

Such visits help make a homecoming worthwhile.
