The power blinked on and off four times before going out for good at 9:39 p.m. Our Guardian backup generator started up 45 seconds later, restored power to all circuits and is still running two hours and 15 minutes later.

AEP says some 500 customers in our area lost power from the ice storm and they have no estimate when it will be restored. Good thing Clark Gas & Oil filled our propane tank last week. We’re good for about a week before the tank runs dry.

But the temperature is going up, rising two degrees in the last three hours. With the thermometer currently at 32.9 degrees I suspect this ice storm will be short lived.

Ah, winter in the mountains.
