Appalachian Power Thursday morning reports 672 Floyd County customers remain without power and crews have fallen behind the company’s goal to have all power restored throughout Southwestern Virginia by Saturday.
This has been a long, powerless week for many residents as the cleanup from last Friday’s freakish wind storm continues.
Roanoke city still has more than 10,000 customers in the dark and Lynchburg — one of the hardest hit cities — is still missing power to 55.5 percent of APCO’s 35,000 customers. In Carroll County, 1,322 homes and businesses are still waiting for power, 3,774 in Giles, 4,871 in Montgomery, 6,170 in Roanoke County, 285 in Patrick and 569 in Grayson.
APCO brought in extra crews over the Fourth of July but the company admitted it is not meeting its goal of having all power restored by Saturday. By Thursday morning, 84,717 customers remained powerless.
