Barack Obama won Floyd County in Tuesday’s Virginia Democratic primary.
Let me say that again: Barack Obama won Floyd County in Tuesday’s Virginia Democratic primary.
Yes, things have changed here in the Blue Ridge Mountains. Obama also carried Radford, Montgomery County, Henry County and Roanoke. Not surprisingly, Clinton carried Franklin and Carroll Counties . Obama won statewide with 64 percent of the vote.
On the GOP side, Mike Huckabee, a candidate with no chance of winning the nomination, carried Floyd County but he lost the state to John McCain.
Outside our voting precinct in the Rescue Squad hall on U.S. 221, signs for only two candidates adorned the entrance (left): Huckaby and Mitt Romney.
Little wonder the Republicans are in trouble. They put up signs for a candidate who can’t even win the nomination and another for a candidate who has pulled out of the race.
