Chandra Goodson of Floyd County High School ran a personal best in the 800 meter of the Virginia state championship track meet in Radford Saturday to capture the overall win.
Goodson came into the final lap of the event near the rear and opened up in a 400-meter sprint where she passed the leader shortly before the finish line and took the state crown.
She was one of several FCHS students competing in the discus, running and relay events at the state meet at Radford University.
