After a scoreless first quarter between the Floyd County High School Buffaloes and the Blacksburg Bruins, a downed punt inside the five yard left the Buffs deep inside their own territory in the second quarter and the Bruins scored on their next possession to take a 7-0 lead.
Then a series of Buffalo mistakes — interception, fumble, blocked kick, safety and penalties — opened the floodgates as the half ended wit a 37-0 lead by Blacksburg.
Floyd fought back somewhat in the third quarter, outscoring Blacksburg 13-0 but another touchdown by the Bruins added to a lead for a final score of 44-19.
The Buffaloes go into a bye week with a 1-4 record. Quarterback Matt Bary ended the night with 154 yards rushing, including runs for three touchdowns but extra points were missed in two of those touchdowns, More photos and Roger Mannon’s story in next Thursday’s Floyd Press.
