Virginia Republican Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli’s fading campaign for governor is sinking so fact that even hardcore conservative groups are cutting back on financial support and Democrat Terry McAuliffe is collecting late campaign donations nearly 7-1 over his ethics-challenged opponent.

According to the Virginia Public Access Project, McAuliffe in a 24 hour period that ended at 5 p.m. Thursday raised $237,472, compared to just $35,000 by Cuccinelli.

In even more bad news for Cuccinelli, the CommonSense Virginia group cut funding this week for last minute TV ads for the Attorney General by more than $100,000.

“Turn out the lights, the tea party for Ken Cuccinelli is over,” says GOP strategist Ken Loring. “He’s headed for the exits.”

McAuliffe is outspending Cuccinelli three to one in media buys going into the campaign’s final days — mostly because he has the money to do so and his opponent does not.

Large campaign contributors usually watch the trends and cut back heavily on contributions if they sense a campaign is going down the tubes.  A number of large GOP contributors who back current Republican Gov. Bob McDonnell have kept their checkbooks closed and given nothing to Cuccinelli.

“When somebody is ahead in the polls, the financial advantage gets bigger at the end,” said former Virginia Commonwealth Universtiy Bob Holsworth, a veteran political analyst, told the Richmond Times-Dispatch Thursday.

  1. UTOPIA: a fools dream sold by the Clintons, rino Bushes, and BHO. A vote for McUliffe is more of the same financial drain on society. At least Cuccinelli fought Obamacare and the over reaching EPA(won)in in northern Va. Ain’t obamacare great and cheap too. At least elect our own home grown imperfect person. Time to leave the “Twilight Zone”.
