Major power outage in Floyd County overnight.  Electricity to more than 5,000 customers went out at 11:15 p.m. Thursday.

All Appalachian Power Company officials would say about the outage was that it was “equipment related.”  The company first estimated that power would be restored by 3 a.m. Friday, then revised the estimate to 3:30 a.m., then 4:30 a.m. and so on until an estimate of 10:30 a.m.

Power to most customers was restored by shortly after 8 a.m. but the company said 864 still lacked electricity at 8:30 a.m.
