Rain falling and power out in Virginia counties

UPDATE AT 4:00 P.M.: Power appears to be restored in four of the five Virginia counties hit by outages Sunday with only left with 741 customers still in the dark.  That number was down to 671 ay 4:15 p.m.

Power outages hitting the area Sunday with Appalachian Power admitting 2,703 Virginia customers without electricity at 3:00 p.m. Sunday.

Henry County was hardest hit with 1,080 in the dark, followed by Patrick County with 796, Pittsylvania at 324, Pulaski County with 187 and 175 in Floyd County.

The power utility is giving the standard “equipment-related” answer for the power outages.  With temperatures in the high 50s and low 60s and rain ranging from moderate to heavy, some outages may be weather related.

The National Weather Service has a flood warning in place through noon Monday.
