With one varsity basketball team at home and another on the road Monday night, Floyd County High School scored impressive wins in both games and one player closed in on a scoring record.

The Lady Buffs disposed of the Eastern Montgomery Mustangs easily with a 109-18 pasting that was practically a duplicate of a 113-20 victory over the team earlier in the season.

With six Lady Buffs scoring in double digits, Floyd County led 24-4 at the end of the first quarter, 57-13 at the half and outscored the Mustangs 52-5 in the second half.

Hannah Belshan led scoring wiht 18 points, Christine Phillips downed 16, Carley Lytton 12 while Ragan Wiseman, Emily Boothe and Amee Royal added 10 points each.

The win puts the Lady Buffs at 19-1 for the season to date.

In Bland, Caleb Tanner of the Buffaloes moved into second place in Virginia High School League scoring with 37 points in a convincing 96-58 win.  Preston Neukirch added 15 points and Blake Hairston had 12.

The win puts the boys at 16-3 for the season.  Tanner can break the scoring record with 42 more points.

The boys team faces Radford at home Tuesday night in a makeup game originally scheduled for Wednesday but moved because of the threat of snow on Wednesday and Thursday.
