With snow still falling late Thursday morning, snowplows from the Virginia Department of Transportation fight what often seems like a losing battle with the massive snowfall that struck the region.

Most of Floyd is closed Thursday, including most government offices, banks, restaurants and more.

Schools in Floyd County are expected to remain closed Friday and the area expects a long weekend of digging out of the first — and many hope last — major snowfall to strike this winter.
