
Floyd County High School’s Lady Buffs begin defense of their state championship title Wednesday night against the Giles Spartans in the Conference 38 semi-final at the FCHS gym at 6 p.m.
Floyd, the top seed, had a bye in the first round while Giles disposed of James River 65-41 in Pearisburg Tuesday night.
With a 20-1 record, the Lady Buffs face off against the Spartans (7-15) at 6 p.m. The winner plays for the conference championship Friday night.
The boys’ Buffaloes opens their conference play also against Giles at home Thursday night. Leading scorer Caleb Tanner is 13 points away from breaking the VHSL high school career scoring record.
Both the Buffaloes and Lady Buffs beat Giles twice in the regular season.
Regional tournament play is scheduled in Floyd next week.
