Stand fast today in Floyd County and most of Southwestern Virginia because the region is under a high wind warning starting at noon and and running for the next 48 hours.
This means sustained winds of 25 to 35 miles-per-hour and gusts up to 65 — a pace that would get a speeding ticket from local Virginia State Troopers if you moved that fast in a car.
Even worse, the warm temperatures will peak at around 60, with rain, around 2 p.m. Wednesday before heading south, down to 15 or 16 degrees overnight with snow showers and wind.
Thursday’s high is forecast at just above freezing with a low that night of 23 or so before warmer temperatures return with 53 on Friday and 59 on Saturday. Then back into the 30s with a chance of snow for St. Patrick’s Day before settling into the low-to-mid 50s for the rest of next week.
The daytime high is currently forecast for 52-54 for the arrival of Spring late next week.
